[Popular Cocktail] Bloody Mary | Editor: Mark Ma
Bloody Mary — A classic bar brunch cocktail that combines savory, spicy, and fresh fruits and vegetables 🍅🌶️🍋
The Bloody Mary is a time-honored and beloved classic cocktail. Its vodka and tomato juice base is complemented by lemon juice, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, horseradish, and a variety of spices, resulting in a savory, slightly spicy, and fruity flavor. This drink is a favorite at Hong Kong brunches, holiday brunch, and as a hangover cure. I absolutely love this refreshing and nutritious cocktail; one sip leaves you feeling instantly refreshed!
Bloody Mary Classic Recipe
-
45ml vodka
-
90ml tomato juice
-
15 ml fresh lemon juice
-
2 drops Worcestershire sauce
-
A few drops of Tabasco (adjust according to spiciness)
-
Squid salt/celery salt, black pepper to taste
-
A little grated horseradish (optional, to increase the spiciness)
-
Large amounts of ice
-
Garnish with celery stalks, lemon slices, limes, olives, pickles, chili peppers, green onions, etc. according to personal preference
Production steps
-
To salt the rim: Wet the rim of a highball glass with a lemon wedge and then dip it in celery salt or a salt and pepper mixture.
-
In a shaker, combine vodka, tomato juice, lemon juice, horseradish, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and celery salt (or salt and pepper). Add plenty of ice and stir gently (no shaking required).
-
Pour into an ice-filled highball glass and top with a celery stick, lemon slice, olives, pickles, or your favorite savory topping for a punch-in bar drink.
Flavor characteristics
The Bloody Mary combines refreshing fruit and vegetable flavors with a spicy kick and a savory tang. The tomato-like texture kicks in at first, while the vodka and various spices tantalize the palate, and lemon adds a refreshing kick. Horseradish and peppercorns add depth, while celery stalks enhance the overall vegetal flavor. A popular "hero drink" for brunch or morning hangovers in Hong Kong, the Bloody Mary can be customized with a variety of toppings for added flair. I think it's a drink that truly showcases the drinker's personality!
Sharing from the editor's perspective
-
If you like spicy food, you can add more chili sauce and horseradish; if you want it to be more salty and fragrant, you can add more celery salt and spicy soy sauce.
-
※ We recommend preparing your own salted water, celery stalks, and kimchi ingredients at home. Not only will it look better in photos, but it will also greatly enhance the taste!
-
If you don’t like vodka, you can try some variations: replace Tequila with a Bloody Maria, replace Gin with a Red Snapper, etc.
-
It can be the main drink for brunch, a special cocktail to welcome guests at parties, or a strong drink to relieve hangovers. The variations are endless.
-
If you want to be more creative, you can add grilled meat skewers, cheese, pickled plums, and cooked shrimp to DIY a "main course-level" cocktail.
The Bloody Mary is more than just a cocktail; it's the perfect setting for brunches, parties, and creative dining. Whether you're enjoying brunch at home or out and about in Hong Kong, order a personalized Bloody Mary and enjoy this authentic, spicy, and versatile cocktail experience! 🍅🍋🍸
