【Key Road Information】Central Kowloon Route - Between West Kowloon and Kowloon Bay

About Central Kowloon Route

The Central Kowloon Route is a 4.7km long dual three-lane carriageway design that connects the Yau Ma Tei Interchange in West Kowloon with the Kai Tak Development and Kowloon Bay road network in East Kowloon, becoming a trunk road across central Kowloon. The Central Kowloon Route is a fast alternative road that can alleviate traffic congestion on the main east-west roads in Central Kowloon. We will also improve the environment of the surrounding communities through the construction of the Central Kowloon Route, including greening and landscaping, relocation of public facilities, conservation of cultural relics and characteristic sites, and various environmental protection measures during the construction.

Between West Kowloon and Kowloon Bay

The Central Kowloon Route will provide a fast alternative route, allowing vehicles to bypass the current congested sections, greatly saving travel time. After the project is completed, it is estimated that the driving time between West Kowloon and Kowloon Bay via the route during peak hours will be about 5 minutes, which is a significant saving of about 25 minutes compared to the situation without the route. The Central Kowloon Route will also divert traffic flow from the main east-west roads in Kowloon and relieve congestion. Surrounding areas such as Wong Tai Sin, Ho Man Tin and Kowloon City will also benefit from the improved traffic conditions.

The Highways Department announced on (14/6/2025) that the Central Kowloon Route is expected to be ready for official opening to traffic in December this year. It will then be named Central Kowloon Bypass (Yau Ma Tei Section). It is expected that the route will greatly reduce the travel time between the two districts.
