Editor's Preface

Pork bone and carrot soup is a classic Hong Kong favorite year-round. Whether it's a changing weather, a refreshing treat, or a family gathering, this healthy and sweet pork bone soup is sure to delight and nourish everyone. I always add some tips to my recipes, so whether you're looking for a healthy, nourishing, or refreshing soup, the recipe is simple and effortless 🍲!

🛒 Ingredients preparation

  • 1 green radish (about 500g)

  • 1 carrot (about 400g)

  • 1 corn (optional)

  • 2 to 4 candied dates

  • 1-2 tablespoons of almonds

  • Pork bones/tail bones/pork 400~500g

  • 2 slices of ginger

  • 2000–2500ml of water

  • salt to taste

🍲 Detailed cooking process

1️⃣ Pork bone processing

  • Rinse the pork bones and blanch them in boiling water for 2-3 minutes to remove any blood or impurities. Remove the bones and rinse with cold water to ensure a clear broth without any meaty smell.

2️⃣ Prepare the ingredients

  • Peel the green and red radishes and cut into large pieces (about dice);

  • Cut corn into sections (if any);

  • Rinse the candied dates and apricots with water.

  • Crush the ginger slices and set aside.

3️⃣ Cook the soup

  • Add water to a large pot and add all the ingredients (pork bones, green and red radishes, corn, candied dates, apricot kernels, and ginger slices).

  • After boiling over high heat, use a spoon to skim off the foam and impurities on the surface. The soup will be clearer and sweeter.

  • Turn to low heat and simmer for at least 1.5 to 2 hours. If you want it to be more flavorful, you can simmer it for up to 2.5 hours (if it is long enough, the pork bones and radish will release their flavor, making the soup sweeter and smoother).

4️⃣ Finishing seasoning

  • Season with salt as desired before turning off the heat.

  • Scoop out the pork bones, green and red radishes and share them in bowls. Enjoy the healthy soup with the whole family!

💡 Editor's Tips

  • Apricot kernels must be soaked in water first; Chinese medicine practitioners advise pregnant women or people with special illnesses to pay attention to the amount of food they eat.

  • If you want the soup to be more golden and sweet, you can add a few chestnuts or a small piece of dried tangerine peel.

  • Cutting the green and red radishes into large pieces will make them difficult to tenderize; adding corn will enhance the sweetness.

  • I don’t recommend adding MSG, natural ingredients are the healthiest.

  • You can add or reduce corn, tangerine peel, candied dates, and chestnuts according to the number of people eating, and the taste is versatile.

😋 Eating experience

A bowl of hot green, red, and pork bone soup moistens the lungs, relieves coughs, reduces phlegm, and soothes gas. The broth is fresh and sweet without any residue. It's perfect for seasonal changes, dry weather, recuperation, or daily nourishment. The whole family will love it! 🍲🥕🥔🍖!

I’m going to make this classic soup tonight, it’s nourishing and warming 😋~
