How to get free parts when buying a car

🚗 Let me tell you: Free accessories aren't just a favor, they're part of your bargaining skills.

In the Hong Kong car market, whether you go to a franchise dealer, parallel importer, or used car dealership, car sellers all know that the price of a car is fixed on the surface, but there is often room for flexibility in accessories and services .
The so-called "free accessories" are actually part of the bargaining process - if you don't ask, they won't give them to you, but as long as you ask skillfully, most of them will give you some.

1️⃣ First figure out what “accessories” are

Common free parts/services you can get in Hong Kong :

New Cars

  • Solar insulation paper (film)
  • Carpet/pad
  • Parking Sensor
  • Rear parking camera/360-degree panoramic view
  • Dash Cam
  • Alloy rim upgrade
  • Factory navigation/CarPlay upgrade
  • Car body waxing/coating once
  • Front and rear fenders
  • Vehicle tool kit
  • One or two additional free maintenance

Used Cars

  • New battery/new tire
  • Roadside Assistance
  • The cost of the most recent annual inspection
  • First-year insurance discount or agency service
  • Free maintenance for six months after signing the contract

📌 Editor's note: Some "free" items are actually low-cost, such as carpets, which are generally easy to get; but high-priced accessories (360-degree panoramic views, coatings) depend on the market conditions at the time.

2️⃣ Timing is important

🔹 End of month/end of quarter

  • Salespeople are under pressure to achieve performance goals , so they are willing to include more discounted accessories in order to get bonuses.

🔹 New models will be launched

  • The old models need to be cleared out, and there is a lot of room for increasing the purchase of new car accessories.

🔹 Car exhibition/promotion period

  • It usually includes attractive "Show Specials" including upgraded parts or maintenance services.

3️⃣ Psychological warfare and deployment

  1. Don't ask about accessories right away.

    • Discuss the price of the car with the dealer first, or test drive the car to establish your buying interest.
    • It is very destructive to bring out the parts list when the contract is about to be signed.
  2. Use the comparative method

    • Submit a quote from another dealership/dealer that offers similar parts
    • But it should be natural, not too fake
  3. Expressing intention for long-term cooperation

    • For example, "I have a friend who is interested," "I will have it serviced by the manufacturer later"
    • Salespeople think you will bring in continued business and are more willing to increase their investment

4️⃣ Practical speaking skills

The editor will help you design a few statements that can be used directly:

"I think the price is okay, but do you usually give away extra accessories like insulation paper or carpet?"
(Briefly passed, but hinted that if you don’t send it, you won’t sign it)

"I went to Brand Y last time, and the price difference wasn't much, but they gave me a parking sensor and a year of free maintenance. What do you think?"
(Comparative method, forcing the opponent to catch up)

"How about this? Don't bother lowering the price, but give me a little extra, and I'll place the order today."
(Immediate decision to change accessories)

5️⃣ How to get used car parts

  • Inspect first, negotiate later : After inspecting the vehicle and discovering worn/expiring consumables (tread, battery, brake pads), ask the seller to replace them as a parts discount.
  • Inspection fee included : Ask the car dealer to cover your first license fee + vehicle inspection fee.
  • Trade -in bonus : If you trade in your old car, you can request additional accessories as compensation.

6️⃣ Editor's Mine Avoidance Zone⚠️

  • The salesperson said it was a "freebie" but it was actually already included in the price of the car → It's best to get the net price of the car before buying
  • Some "factory upgrades" are actually aftermarket products. Ask for brand homogeneity.
  • The so-called "first free maintenance" may only cover labor, not materials → Ask for details
  • Some accessories (such as modified shock absorbers and rims) may affect the maintenance guarantee → Be careful of affecting the original warranty

7️⃣ Final touch strategy

  • I'm about to sign this document, but I'd like to ask one last question:

"If the signature is finalized now, could you please add ×× and ×× for me?"
80% of salespeople will agree to do something in order to close the deal, especially at the end of the month.

  • Accessory combination method :

    • If you talk about 2-3 things at the same time, the other party may cut off one of them, but you will make money from the remaining ones.
    • For example, if you buy "insulation paper + carpet + dashcam", you may end up getting the first two, but they are all extra benefits.

❤️ Summary

📌Accessories = bargaining chips , if you don’t ask, you have none 📌Timing + attitude are the keys to success (success is easiest just before signing the deal)
📌 Know what you want. Don't buy useless "decorations". Go for something practical, high value, and something you actually want to decorate.
