[Used Car Terminology] What is a zero or one-digit license plate?
Share
1. Card Book:
The license plate book is a vehicle registration document issued by the Hong Kong Transport Department. It is the legal proof of every legally registered vehicle. The license plate book records key information such as the owner's name, vehicle model, registration date, etc.
2. First digit/number of words/number of lots:
In the second-hand car sales in Hong Kong, the "first number", "number of words" or "number of hands" refers to the number of previous registered owners of the vehicle since its first registration. This information will be listed in the "Number of previous owners since June 15, 1980" column of the license plate book.
3. Definition of the first number in the deck:
0-digit license plate: indicates that the current owner is the first owner of the vehicle, i.e. the vehicle has never been sold.
1-digit plate book: means the vehicle had 1 previous owner before it was resold. In other words, the current owner is the second owner.
2-digit plate book: means the vehicle had 2 previous owners before it was resold. In other words, the current owner is the third owner.
And so on.
4. Importance of the first number:
Generally speaking, in the used car market, apart from the brand new "0-digit license plate", a car with a lower "digit" (such as 1-digit or 2-digit) may be considered more attractive.
5. Notes:
* "Number of characters" is not the only criterion for judging the condition of a vehicle. The actual maintenance of the vehicle is more important.
* It is best for buyers to entrust a reputable vehicle inspection firm to conduct the vehicle inspection to thoroughly understand the vehicle’s true condition and quality.
* Also check the "Vehicle Condition at First Registration" code, which shows the vehicle's status information when it was first registered in Hong Kong, such as whether the vehicle was newly imported, whether it had been used overseas, etc.
